Christian Vander, Magma and the MD story...

I just read the most excellent MD article on France's mystery man of fusion drumming; Christian Vander leader and founder of the group Magma, being interviewed by another drumming favourite of mine, Morgan ?gren (whose last name, funnily enough, was misspelt ?gren all through the story..)

...and I must say that I'm glad to see that MD just doesn't cover drummers from the flavor of the month nu-metal bands these days (even though their one sided coverage of such drummers was one of the reasons I discontinued my subscription a couple of years back, but that is, as they say, beside the point...)

For those of you that haven't had they chance to check out Vander's drumming yet, I can best describe his style as Elvin Jones playing with the Mahavishnu Orchestra (if that makes any sense...)
If you're at all into fusion, you owe to yourself to check it out.. I would recommend the albums "Attahk" and "Udu Vuudu" as a good staring place, but really can't go wrong with any album from Magma's extensive discography...

Bravo MD for daring to dig a bit deeper the usual fare this time and showcasing a unique and creative artist, may we yet hope for a story on Morgan ?gren too???

Btw, any Magma fans out there, or are my ramblings utter nonsense to all of you???

I also heard that Christian Vander is one of the best drummers that France ever produced...

i think magma comes in the states in june or i july
i'm from belgium and i have see vander saturday with an other of his band : offering
he is one of my favourite drummer.and the music of magma is great.you must hear it in concert.

you must hear the live albums from 73 to 76.the vander's drumming is very great in this years.
